roulette

Roulette is a casino game that uses a ball dropped onto a spinning horizontal wheel that is divided in colored and numbered slots. An American wheel has 38 slots that include a single zero and double zero. A European wheel has 37 slots that include only a single zero.

Players bet on which slot the ball will land on using the betting layout. Roulette is a classic game that was invented in the 17th century. In the 1800s, the idea of roulette traveled from Europe to the United States, which lead to a revised version of the game called American Roulette. Amazingly, not much has changed with the game aside from a few minor tweaks. Roulette has stayed popular through the years because of its consistency and ability to draw big crowds and high stakes.

When looking to buy a roulette table, the best quality ones are constructed from oak wood and are covered with quality felt like 100% wool. It is durable enough to stand the test of time and shouldn’t require much maintenance beyond general cleaning. Most include a removable padded armrest for the players to lean on. The felt is generally green but you can get the color of your choice such as blue or burgundy. A money slot for dealer tips can usually be found just beyond where the dealer stands before the betting layout. Other wood finishes include ebony, mahogany and cherry. Some roulette tables have cupholders and tracks along the outer edge for player chips. Most tables range from four to eight feet in length. Casinos use 8-foot long roulette tables. Legs can vary but most modern tables consist of H-style padded wood slab legs.

Usually, the roulette wheel, chips and marker are sold separately. The chips are made up of different colors to differentiate the players at the table who are betting. The marker is sort of an elegant paperweight, usually made up of finely-colored glass, the dealer uses to mark which number came up on the roulette wheel. The betting grid uses a traditional casino layout that hasn’t changed over the years with options for single number bets, column bets, dozen bets, even chance bets and more. The roulette table has a modern design that can be a great addition for anyone.
